In a significant development affirming the rule of law within Nigeria’s transport sector, the National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN) in Abuja has reinforced Alhaji (Dr.) Musa Mohammed Maitakobi’s position as the authentic and legitimate Executive National President of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN).
On February 24, 2026, Justice O.Y. Anuwe delivered a ruling ordering the committal to Kuje Correctional Centre of two individuals—former Secretary-General Yusuf Ibrahim Adeniyi and Eriyo Osakpamwan—for contempt of court.
This stemmed from their continued defiance of a subsisting 2020 judgment that had declared Osakpamwan’s claims to the presidency illegal, null, and void, and restrained him from parading as RTEAN President.
The court’s decision, which RTEAN welcomed as a “victory for all members and a reaffirmation of the judiciary’s role in upholding the rule of law,” puts an end to lingering factional attempts to challenge President Maitakobi’s authority.
This builds on earlier appellate affirmations, including the Court of Appeal’s July 2025 ruling (upheld from prior decisions) that recognized Dr. Musa Mohammed as the duly elected leader, dismissing related appeals as irrelevant due to expired tenures in dispute.
RTEAN’s official website (rtean.com.ng) continues to list Alhaji (Dr) Musa Mohammed (Maitakobi 1) prominently as the Executive National President, underscoring the unchallenged status of his leadership at the national level.
Just two days after the court’s reinforcement, on February 26, 2026, President Maitakobi presided over a key milestone: the inauguration of newly elected executives for five state chapters of RTEAN.
The ceremony took place at the Conference Hall of the association’s National Headquarters, marking the beginning of a fresh five-year term for these branches.
The inaugurated states include:
– Borno
– Plateau
– Imo
– Enugu
– Delta
During the event, full executive lists were presented, with notable highlights on State Chairmen and Secretaries.
For instance, in Borno State, Amb. Muhammad Bishara was inaugurated as Chairman alongside Barr. Bulama Adamu as Secretary.
These inaugurations reflect RTEAN’s ongoing efforts to strengthen grassroots structures, ensure smooth operations across chapters, and align state-level leadership with the national vision under President Maitakobi’s guidance.
The moves come amid broader endorsements from RTEAN for national policies and calls for sector-specific reforms, demonstrating the association’s stability and forward momentum.
This sequence of events—the judicial reinforcement of his presidency followed swiftly by state-level inaugurations—solidifies Alhaji (Dr.) Musa Mohammed Maitakobi’s role as the undisputed leader of RTEAN, fostering unity and progress in Nigeria’s vital road transport employers’ sector.
