Hon. Doguwa has once again demonstrated the rare courage that true leadership demands in times of national crisis. His direct and unfiltered call—“Shut down the National Assembly cos who are you legislating for? What law are you making when the country is running in blood?”—is not mere rhetoric; it is a piercing wake-up call to those in power.
In an era when many elected officials choose silence, expediency, or polished platitudes in the face of unrelenting insecurity, bloodshed, and suffering across communities, Rep. Doguwa chose candor.
He rightly questioned the moral legitimacy of continuing “business as usual” in the legislature while ordinary Nigerians live under constant threat, farms are abandoned, roads are death traps, and families bury loved ones weekly due to preventable violence.
Advising the Speaker to effectively halt routine legislative proceedings until decisive action is taken on insecurity is a dramatic but principled stance.
It underscores a fundamental truth: laws mean little when citizens cannot live in safety to enjoy or obey them. Governance without security is hollow theater.
Even while proudly wearing the symbol of the administration he has long supported, Hon. Doguwa refused to let partisan loyalty blind him to the people’s pain.
That willingness to speak uncomfortable truth to power—from within the ruling camp—deserves respect and admiration. It reminds us that loyalty to country and conscience must sometimes supersede loyalty to party or person.
Nigeria needs more voices like this: fearless, plain-spoken, and focused on the survival and dignity of the people rather than the comfort of the elite. Hon. Doguwa’s intervention is a refreshing display of patriotism and humanity at a moment when both are in short supply.
May more leaders find the spine to echo this urgency, and may the Tinubu administration finally match words with the bold, comprehensive action that insecurity demands.
Until then, statements like Rep. Doguwa’s remain essential—they keep the pressure on and remind everyone that the people’s suffering cannot be legislated away or ignored indefinitely.
Well said, Honorable. 🇳🇬
