Berlin/Abuja — The Nigerian government has replaced former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode as its ambassador-designate to Germany, diplomatic sources and reports indicate.
Senator Ita Enang, who was previously appointed as Nigeria’s Ambassador to South Africa, will now take up the posting in Berlin. He is expected to assume official duties at the Nigerian Embassy in the German capital in the coming weeks.
The development follows allegations by *Peoples Gazette* a few weeks ago that the German government had rejected Fani-Kayode’s nomination. The publication had also reported that the former minister could instead be redeployed to South Africa.
As of now, the Nigerian government has not issued an official statement confirming Fani-Kayode’s new posting, if any. Sources close to the matter say his next assignment remains unclear.
Fani-Kayode, popularly known as FFK, is a vocal politician and former Minister of Aviation under the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo. His nomination as ambassador had attracted significant public attention and commentary.
Senator Ita Enang, a seasoned politician and former presidential adviser on National Assembly Affairs under President Muhammadu Buhari, brings extensive legislative and executive experience to the diplomatic role.
This reshuffle underscores the administration’s efforts to finalise key diplomatic appointments amid reported vetting and acceptance challenges from receiving countries.
“This is a developing story. Further details are awaited from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
