Abuja— A resurfaced video of veteran Nollywood actor and politician Kenneth Okonkwo has gone viral, in which he described Peter Obi as not just uncorrupt but “incorruptible,” while drawing sharp contrasts with Bola Tinubu and Atiku Abubakar.
In the clip, believed to be from late 2022 during his time as spokesperson for the Labour Party’s presidential campaign council, Okonkwo stated:
“Peter Obi is not a corrupt politician and he is incorruptible. If you talk about corruption, you look at Tinubu and Atiku Abubakar. Atiku Abubakar bought his 2023 presidential ticket.”
The remarks, made when Okonkwo was a fierce defender of the Obi-Datti ticket, underscored Obi’s integrity as a key selling point against his major rivals.
Shift in Allegiance
Okonkwo has since parted ways with the Labour Party and Peter Obi. He resigned from the party amid reported internal crises and has become a vocal critic of the former Anambra governor, particularly after Obi’s recent political movements involving the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and other platforms.
In recent interviews and statements, Okonkwo has questioned Obi’s leadership temperament, accused him of avoiding competitive primaries, and suggested his exits from coalitions reflect instability. He has aligned with the ADC coalition, which includes figures associated with Atiku Abubakar.
Reactions and Context
Supporters of Peter Obi have seized on the old video to highlight what they describe as political inconsistency or “defection” by Okonkwo and others.
Critics of Obi, including some pro-government voices and opposition figures like Daniel Bwala, Reno Omokri, and Femi Fani-Kayode, have in the past and present levelled various criticisms against the Labour Party leader, while some now align in broader political realignments ahead of 2027.
Okonkwo’s evolution mirrors the fluid nature of Nigerian politics, where former allies often become sharp critics following shifts in allegiance, party platforms, or personal calculations.
This development comes as political permutations intensify, with various actors positioning themselves for future contests. Neither Okonkwo nor Peter Obi has issued fresh direct responses to the resurfaced clip as of this reporting.
This remains a developing political story with strong reactions across social media and traditional platforms.
