OSOGBO, May 29, 2025 — Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State continues to solidify his leadership, balancing development strides with a growing fanbase, even as legal and political battles threaten to derail his momentum.

Since taking office in November 2022, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governor has faced significant challenges, particularly around local government elections and youth empowerment, yet his focus on education and infrastructure has kept his popularity on an upward trajectory.

Adeleke’s administration has been under fire in 2025, especially after backlash over local government elections. In February, the Federal Government intervened, citing an alleged breach of a court ruling reinstating

All Progressives Congress (APC) chairmen, forcing a suspension of the process. The governor didn’t hold back, publicly slamming the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) and the Supreme Court’s verdict on local government financial autonomy, accusing them of undermining constitutional provisions.

Adding to the tension, critics on platforms like Facebook have called out his administration for neglecting youth empowerment, pointing to discontinued programs with no replacements in sight.

But Adeleke, a former senator and uncle to music star Davido, seems to have mastered the art of governance through action and engagement.

His administration has delivered tangible results: Osun’s education ranking soared from 33rd to 7th nationally in WAEC/NECO results, a feat not seen in 18 years, while infrastructure projects like boreholes across all 333 wards have been completed without borrowing a dime.

His 2025 plans, focusing on soft infrastructure and inclusivity, aim to benefit all demographics, a promise he’s backed with transparency by adopting the Freedom of Information Act.

Public sentiment, especially on X, reflects his growing appeal. On his 65th birthday on May 13, 2025, governors like Aminu Tambuwal and Ladi Adebutu showered him with praise, lauding his “courage and commitment” to Osun’s progress.

Citizens echoed this, with posts highlighting his “talk and do” approach. Yet, as his popularity rises, so do expectations. Navigating criticisms and legal disputes while keeping supporters loyal is no easy feat, but Adeleke’s strategic stakeholder engagement—like rallying support at NBA events—shows he’s not backing down.
