Aguata Federal Constituency: Why Engr. Dom Okafor Deserves Continuity – Ranking Member Status Will Attract More Projects & Opportunities

AGUATA FEDERAL CONSTITUENCY;ENGR. DOM OKAFOR NEEDS CONTINUITY TO ATTRACT MORE CONSTITUENCY PROJECTS AS A RANKING MEMBER

Sometimes ambitions derail political energy needed to fire and attract projects. The major reasons why past Anambra members of House of Representatives like Hon Chris Azubogu attracted many projects and was even nick named Mr Project was because he became a Ranking member.

We can count on our fingers Honourable members who have sat at the Green Chambers with tangible results during their first tenure . Most at times it is not because they are not willing but because either local zoning arrangements or unpreparedness limited their abilities.

As someone who has observed all the House of Representative members from across all Federal Constituencies in Anambra State zoning adherence can literally detail the accomplishments of most of them.

In Aguata Federal Constituency the issue of zoning has always played out with stakeholders. There have been seasons when either constituency 1 or 2 have held the positions of House of Representatives and Local Government Chairman at the same time.

In 2002 when Osele was removed from Office the Deputy Chairman from South took over. On several seasons the positions have been held by candidates from the same zone. Sometimes they are not deliberate but most at times by political convenience.

In 2003 I was a member of the Aguata Local Government Transition Council; we served with Ogamba from Akpo who was a personal nominee of Hon Nze Duru. Both are from Aguata South also.

So zoning being a good arrangement to give each area opportunity, there are zonings that will actually deprive Federal Constituencies projects opportunities based on the issues of ranking which is very vital in considering committee memberships and heads. Apart from attracting tangible constituency projects, employments in Federal ministries and parastatals are low hanging fruits for a Ranking member.

There is no doubt that chairmanship of committees attract better and more profound constituency projects. Example is that of Hon Azubogu who was in the House for 3 seasons and headed appropriation committee which attracted massive constituency projects across Nnewi North & South and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency. I personally followed up his trajectory then. In fact some of his constituency projects extended to Aguata. I know because those projects still exist.

There are calls by some to adopt zoning in Aguata again based on some current political trajectories. However, I have looked at the calls as a senior Political Strategist and interacted with some people..and believe that the current occupier has a unique background that will place him in a new and unique committee. HON Engr Dom Okafor is a Fellow of Nigeria Society of Engineers; FNSE. It definitely will place him as a potential Chairman on works committee if he returns to the Green Chambers. HON Dom Okafor has a unique advantage as a skilled lobbyist without bloated ego.

We that know his backgroud and give him credit for being the first timer member of House of Representatives with the highest number of constituency projects within his first term.

I know because I have been around. I know the first term records of all the House of Representative members from Aguata. Each tried. But we put their 8 years records together. However, we are talking of record in the first term for Engr Sir Dom Okafor; a knight of the Catholic church, a member of Rotary International, infact a Past President of Rotary Club of Port Harcourt; after his tenure he was adjudged the best Club President amongst all then 109 Rotary clubs in all the South East and South South that constitute Rotary International District 9140 then.

HON Engr Dom Okafor is not only an asset in the Federal House of Representatives, but a proud son of Aguata who takes his responsibilities very seriously.
